Just yesterday I was chatting my evening away with my one of my friends, debating a show (not politics, though you would say from our anger it was rather serious) and then discussing models. How are they supposed to look or act? How old are they supposed to be? Are they too young? Too innocent? Too skinny or too fat? Well, Kate Moss did say in her Vanity Fair interview that she was way too young when she started, and it would still feel weird asking a 16 year old girl to take her clothes off. It’s a tough, cold, unfriendly business, that’s for sure, so I do respect these girls who have to keep a straight face and head when some agency or brand might say no to them for not being skinny enough, when their figure is regarded as unhealthily slim to the rest of the world. At the end of the day, a model gets picked if she fits a brand’s or designer’s image, and probably attitude & confidence have a lot to do with this.
FashionTag will take a look at a small part of these girls’ world – their style! Have you noticed how models street style always looks kind of the same? It’s as if they all follow some tips and unknown (to the rest of the world) golden rules. In the most exquisite effortless manner they appear fun, trendy, not-too-bothered, always wearing black, leather jackets, heels, bare faces, sleek hair, vintage pieces mixed with designer ones, or oversized coats or tops that hide away perfect figures, to mark even better this cool way of dressing.
Could it be that being so close to fashion, clothes, stylists designers and all the glamour this world holds, that models have developed an inner sense of style and no matter what they wear, or how they wear it, it will look fabulous? I suppose it’s in their fun, quirky attitudes and capacity to not take fashion too seriously that make models literally appear as if they don’t give a damn how they look, yet that very thing makes them the new style icons of our generation. With constant access to fashion it was bound to rub off on them and being so young, these girls hold the key to the evergreen question: ‘How to look stylish?‘ – Basically don’t care, have fun, don’t over-think your outfits, mix and match all with no rules in mind, except how you feel like it, stick to basics (black, leather, boots) be cool, humble, young, edgy & innocent. Wherever models go, in any culture, country, continent any time of day or evening, any coffee shop or show, models’ off duty styles are gorgeous with that bit of glam grunge to them, they’re a trademark and why not, inspiration for the rest. So could models off duty styles make these young beauties the new style icons of our days? How to look this relaxed, cool, edgy? Well simply remember… eventually it’s just fashion, what you’re wearing are just clothes & it’s your attitude that puts the style in it!
