Does Size Matter?

201212141515457302When it comes to dresses this season word of mouth is that YES, size (well actually hem length) does matter. One of the biggest Trends of 2013 have definitely been the MIDI Dresses, which is a great 60’s tribute with a tiny 90’s grunge reminiscing. For this season designers were pretty much exploring all sides a MIDI dress has to offer: classy, retro, edgy, sporty-chic, grunge, punk, rock’n roll, modern. I truly think there’s a design for any age, style, look & occasion with this MIDI hem, I mean clearly it is a trend that fits just about anyone and can be so fantastically mixed and matched and adapted to any style. 9e9d9d28636a99178f4066f1940f80bfWhen discussing MIDI Dresses as a 2013 Spring Trend my ultimate crush is those bodycon styles with a cap-sleeve and perhaps an open back. Amazing! For a tougher edgier look they can be styled with chunky heeled ankle boots (throw in some studs while you’re at it) and a big clutch (for evenings) or a super funky bag. Or if you’re feeling adventurous go for the total comfy grunge look: Creepers! (click here for more) Just because they look so cool and fun and when it comes to creepers the thicker the sole the better. Tired of heels? No worries, these MIDI dresses look fabulous with ballet pumps and big earrings. Sort of Dolce & Gabbana style with that chic retro vibe to it all. For a classier and even a more sophisticated look MIDI dresses are a perfect match with heeled pumps. Not those thick soles (read stripper) but the classic pumps that are making a huge comeback this season. Wear them in neon, bright colors or funky prints and patterns. And of course… we’ve always got the gladiator sandals for summer (click here for more). So basically it’s a fashion heaven. A MIDI dress goes with absolutely anything. It’s a style chameleon and pretty much worth every penny, as you’ll be donning it all summer long. One of my favorite pieces and styles remain the black and white ones (with those 60s prints please) such as the one from Boohoo (click here for more).

Or those super psychedelic patterns in bright confusing colors are amazing. From office to evening, from cocktail events or out for drinks with friends these dresses are the IT of 2013 Spring. Another thing I truly like about them is the basic fabric they come in: plain jersey. I just find it so unsophisticated that it’s actually sophisticated. 🙂 Doesn’t make any sense, does it? For some shopping inspo check out Bank Fashion, they’ve got some of the most fantastic MIDI dresses I’ve seen. Still crushing over this one… midi-dress-grunge-stylemidi-dressblack-midi-dresskim-kardashian-midi-dressmidi-dress-rihannamidi-dress-spring-trendAs long as you keep the hem slightly over the knee, and pick a tight/bodycon style you’ll be nailing this trend. Besides the cut and design options are a ton: cap-sleeve, long sleeves, open-back, spaghetti straps, insertions of lace or leather, cut-outs et all. When it comes to shopping they’re everywhere, invading all retail chains and fashion boutiques. Plus they’re a retro-comeback so you might just have one lying around in the back of your closet, or your mom does or older sister. Not to mention they look hot without reveling too much which is a HUGE plus.  So are you IN or OUT on this MIDI trend girls?

  1. One of the reasons I began to buy vintage dresses when I lived in London was because for the life of me, I just couldn’t find dresses with the right length. I’m not a huge fan of my legs so I’m super seeuper pick with the length, it has to hit the right spot between my ankle and knee and I have found vintage dresses to tick this box more.
Last summer I tried to give the LDN high street one more chance and floated around trying to look for a dress (that wasn’t a maxi) but literally, everything either hit the knee or was above it. But who knows maybe things will be turning on the High Street now I’ve read this post….

    • Let’s hope so, it has all been done before in terms of hem, so i’m guessing and hoping it’s this one’s turn now. I have to say i used to hate it in the past, but now i just find it so chic and a bit retro-cool. I love it!! And yeah I agree, vintage shops do have some of the best dresses of this length. Ahhh u just put me into such a shopping mood now 🙂 xoxo
