OK so she might be one of those girls who are famous but you don’t quite know what for… Not to deprive her off her merits or anything – but besides being a ‘sort of’ an actress and model (for which she hasn’t got the height by the way) she risks being viewed as a mere rich girl from Upper East Side, New York who got lucky by playing dress up with designer clothes. Well now… if that should be the case I choose to keep her side because to be honest – Olivia Palermo is a certified guru of style and fashion. She’s got a natural flair of mixing clothes, creating styles, putting together outfits that few have even thought of creating let alone wearing. And she is not only fabulous in them… she became a style icon! Refined, elegant, glamed up but cool, sophisticated and chic, always one step ahead of trends, creative, original – Olivia manages to impress me every time. Regardless of her social status, her other talents or her luck – she is a woman with taste. And if you ask me, lots of girls should take her as a fashion role model. Not in regards of her opulent spending, but in regards of her sense of style and freedom of fashion experimentation.
Marie Claire put Olivia Palermo on the cover of April 2012 issue, and she is stunning! On the cover she is wearing a red Christian Dior dress and in the editorial she’s absolutely ravishing in Valentino, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent & Louis Vuitton. (check out some of the pics below)
The interview was really good, as it gave us a small scoop into Olivia‘s styling. Yes she’s being ‘fashion wise’. Though probably we already knew some of her tips – it’s good when we’ve got a celeb’s emphasis on how right we were in the first place.
Her advice on looking good on a low budget is simple. Mix cheap with expensive. Or rather low cost with higher/est cost. And while she’s mixing Topshop with Jimmy Choos, we’re probably a slight step behind. Mixing vintage with Topshop. But it’s still a good advice, right?
One of her major fashion tips to us all is ‘Invest in a special piece and make sure it’s wearable each season’. And last but not least (I saved the best for last) is about the must have pieces this season. Olivia tells us to go for a basic jersey top, spike heels and of course patterned trousers. How come I’m not at all surprised. Isn’t she a bit obsessed / passionate about patterns? Well she is the Fashion Queen of Mismatched Printed clothes, isn’t she?
