O.K. so finally the Golden Globes 2013 happened and it was all as we expected, actually better if I may I say so, fashion wise. With more best looks and dresses than worst, the 2013 Golden Globes Red Carpet was a truly fabulous one. Sure there were some small fashion horrors. Alyssa Milano I’m talking to you. What the hell was that all about? A gorgeous woman in a wrong dress & makeup. And of course your regular Helena Bonham-Carter, who’s starting to seem funny with time rather than bad. Oh… wait. No. Not really. Anyway, Hollywood’s posh people were just that: beautiful & glam. And of course talented. After all it was an award show, so we were bound to have some winners. Ben Affleck (sigh again), Jennifer Lawrence, Daniel Day Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway…This year it seemed as if a bridal convention was happening at the Golden Globes, I mean have you seen the number of white/nude dresses? Are all the single ladies literally throwing hints or the already married ones poking our eyes? Ha! To be honest with you I’m not complaining quite the opposite, I’m taking notes. After all I am getting married this summer so I’m constantly on the look out for my wedding dress and my bridesmaids ones. The ‘brides’ looked absolutely stunning, as most went for quite simple styles with a bit of glam and sparkles. Of course Jennifer Lopez would not be true to herself if she didn’t over do it. We’re all familiar with your Latina curves JLo. Hello! Now seriously, all comments aside, she was stunning! Megan Fox, Francesca Eastwood, Amanda Seyfried, Hayden Panattiere, Isla Fisher, Julianne Hough (although the lower part of her dress was quite the turn off, too puffy, too much, too princessy), Kelly Osbourne (not quite white, but close enough), Michelle Dockery (now I know everyone was in awe with her, but I thought she looked like a bird. The dress was amazing, just too bold at the shoulders for her already shoulder strong frame. Just saying.), Lea Michelle, Kerry Washington & Anne Hathaway – they were all in their wedding meets Golden Globes mood and most of them pulled off this look. Makeup & beauty wise I loved the simple, natural trend: simple makeup, less coloured lips, loose up-dos, waves, silky manes. The one thing they were all amazingly obsessed about with this Red Carpet event were the coloured glam statement earrings. They just put the glam in any look & perfectly complete a style giving it an ultimate class & richness.
Another Red Carpet Trend at the 2013 Golden Globes was the high slit. Some beauties or stylists out there need to thank Angelina Jolie’s leg for this. Were they all channeling that leggy look or what? Truth be told this style (cut) is an old favorite of mine, and I love how it looks on flowy textures & super long gowns. Now if you have a body like Miranda Kerr‘s… you’d be a fool not to do this look at least once. She looked fabulous in her uber high slit, plunging V-neck, dark red dress. Statement earrings – checked. Natural hair – checked, glowing natural makeup – checked. Eva Longoria went for black, backless super hot super high slit and looked fab! Updo and her classic makeup in place. Best part about her dress? Loved the 2 textures: lace upper part (a classic with these events) and the flowy, sensual lower part. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley went for this look as well (not too surprised there) & Halle Berry who perhaps should have gone for a more simple look, just to avoid the fashion controversy with her dress this year. What I truly didn’t like about her dress, was the cutout part at the hip. And maybe the print. Besides it was a bit too summery, wasn’t it? Mermaid silhouettes & princess shaped dresses (almost all in white) were the stars’ favorites this year, with Jessica Alba looking gorgeous, one of my faves fashion & makeup both, and Taylor Swift finally doing something different (no red lips, no curls, no red dress). She did look beautiful. Sofia Vergara, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman (not feeling her dress at all), Sarah Hyland (horrible hair & too made-up look & style for her), Naomi Watts, Amy Adams – went for slim, mermaid dresses. On the more romantic side we had: Jennifer Lawrence (red princess dress that was just OK), Zooey Deschanel, Julia Louis-Dreyfus & Lucy Liu (too fairy-tale). And then there was the classic black & red with all ladies looking beautiful. Just comes to show that when in doubt stick with the classics and you’ll be fine. Jennifer Garner was simply beautiful & effortless in her red sparkling dress, natural hair & makeup. Marion Cotillard… was… I’m not even gonna go there. For this kind of event I would have gone for a long gown. She probably could not make up her mind: long, short, long, short? It’s both. Same thinking had Rachel Weisz. Pretty bad if you ask me. But the ladies are super hot & talented so who are we to judge. I would have thought with these Golden Globes we’d be seeing loads of bright colors, and even neon shades. Yet as you can see most went for white, black & shades of red, with a few ladies who opted for pastels and pulled off the toned down shade: Nicole Richie, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Chastain or Sienna Miller. And then we had the long tube dresses (Julianna Marguiles, Emily Blunt, Julianne Moore, Kerry Washington), one tea-length (Tina Fey rocked it), a suit (Amy Poehler broke the fashion rules with it and made it look good) and a mini dress (Thandie Newton. Hmm!). Well… all in all it was great, it gave bloggers, journalists, media & entertainment people an excuse to gossip, criticize, and wear the fashion police cap for a few hours. And now as it ended we keep in mind a few things: mermaid dresses in white are a huge hit and beauty wise it’s all about the side swept hair, natural waves, clean natural makeup. All glamed up with the coloured statement earrings. Enjoy:
